Communications Director
Kaitlyn Filip joined the SCALES team in 2024, assuming the role of Communications Director in 2025. She holds a JD and a PhD in Rhetoric and Public Culture from Northwestern University where her dissertation argued for the need for court transparency to build a more just court system. She teaches presentation skills and undergraduate law classes.
Before joining SCALES, she was a Research Fellow at Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts for four years where she focused on civil courts projects and an intern at Corporate Accountability Lab. She has a background in libraries, formerly managing a rural branch in a public library system.
She is highly knowledgeable about reality competition shows and romance novels but has yet to find her perfect romance novel about a reality show.
