The SCALES Open Justice Research Workshop is a virtual workshop for scholars across the United States in Law, Computer Science, Data Science, Journalism and Social Sciences. The SCALES OKN, funded by the National Science Foundation’s Convergence Accelerator award, aims to serve the people who research, report on, and regularly use court records.
Our goal is to bring transparency to the systems and processes of the U.S. courts, ensuring that they are fair, efficient, and accurate.
Our workshop will feature presentations from past attendees, plenary sessions between the two locations via zoom, and in-person breakout ideation sessions. You will also be given access to the alpha-version SCALES OKN web app, which contains over half a million federal case dockets, in advance of the workshop, in order to gain familiarity and work directly with federal litigation data.
